Christmas in July 2017

Not sure where that phrase originated from, but as a card designer, I definitely should be thinking of Christmas in July. So here I am hiding out in my studio with the AC blasting trying to think of winter holiday ideas. To get me in the mood and hopefully inspired, I review what was popular in my store, greetingcarduniverse.com/dianascards last winter.

Looks like I should be adding more New Years cards and designs featuring hand lettering.

When I first opened my shop at GCU in 2007, I thought it was a waste to even create New Year designs, but did add a few as they had a category for them. Hey what did I know? The first few years, I had very few sales for this holiday. How times have changed.  My personal theory on the growing popularity of New Year's cards is that there's just so much to be done right before Christmas that some people are opting to send out New Year's rather than Christmas cards. My other thought is that not everyone celebrates Christmas and sending out good wishes for the coming  year is a way to join in the joys of the season.

My hand lettering is something I've been having fun with so I'm gratified that my playing is paying off. I'll definitely be designing some fun festive wintry sayings for my store.

Now back to the studio to think, doodle, sketch... and come up with hopefully popular designs for Winter 2017.

New Card Designs: Christmas, New Year And Birthday

MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT Hand lettering I had originally created this design for a Christmas card design contest. The specs were to add hand lettering to photo images that were supplied by the design firm. The quote or phrase was my choice. It didn't win but I'd like to think it was a contender. Anyhow I've since added it to my GreetingCardUniverse.com/DianasCards shop minus the photo images. It's been chosen as a GCU Staff Pick and it's 1 of my current season's best sellers. YAY! Looking ahead to 2017: Both of the following Hand Lettered designs were originally designed for Christmas cards but I think we could use some Peace ALL year round not just at Christmas time. Winter in the Summer

Geez it's been awhile since I posted on this blog... so no  excuses just jumping back in. I've been busy working on winter designs for my POD, Print-On-Demand shops. Why now you might ask. It's POD, afterall, don't you just upload and it's ready to buy, almost instantaneously? True - but it does take a few months for the search engines to find your design and index it so it can be searched and found by a possible buyer. Hence working on winter designs in summer in my ink and watercolor style and some hand lettering.
