Not sure where that phrase originated from, but as a card designer, I definitely should be thinking of Christmas in July. So here I am hiding out in my studio with the AC blasting trying to think of winter holiday ideas. To get me in the mood and hopefully inspired, I review what was popular in my store,
greetingcarduniverse.com/dianascards last winter.
Here are my 5 most popular winter holiday cards of 2016. Click the images to view them bigger and for more info.
• Three of these designs are New Year's cards.
• Two of the designs show off my hand lettering skills.
Looks like I should be adding more New Years cards and designs featuring hand lettering.
When I first opened my shop at GCU in 2007, I thought it was a waste to even create New Year designs, but did add a few as they had a category for them. Hey what did I know? The first few years, I had very few sales for this holiday. How times have changed. My personal theory on the growing popularity of New Year's cards is that there's just so much to be done right before Christmas that some people are opting to send out New Year's rather than Christmas cards. My other thought is that not everyone celebrates Christmas and sending out good wishes for the coming year is a way to join in the joys of the season.
My hand lettering is something I've been having fun with so I'm gratified that my playing is paying off. I'll definitely be designing some fun festive wintry sayings for my store.
Now back to the studio to think, doodle, sketch... and come up with hopefully popular designs for Winter 2017.
